MARQUETTE - Lake Superior State opened the 2013 volleyball
season with back-to-back 3-0 losses to Minnesota-Crookston and
Michigan Tech during the first day of competition at the Superior
Oasis Wildcat Classic hosted by Northern Michigan.
Minnesota-Crookston (4-1) won the first match, 25-20, 25-20,
25-20, and MTU (2-4) defeated the Lakers, 25-21, 25-19, 25-17.
During the first match, senior Emily Snyder led LSSU with 11
kills, while freshman Jen Marren had 10. Sophomore Sydne McMullen
totaled six kills and a team-leading .417 attack percentage. Rookie
setter Janelle Nagy totaled 31 assists, and junior libero Meghan
Drobish had 24 digs.
Marren totaled 12 kills and Snyder 10 during the match against
Michigan Tech. Senior Chloe Balanda had four kills and a team-high
.214 attack percentage. Balanda and sophomore Gaby Olsen added
three blocks each.
Nagy finished with 26 assists, and Drobish led in digs with 18.
Snyder added 11 digs.
