Box Score HOUGHTON - Less than a week after not winning a single set
during four matches at last weekend's Wildcat Open, the Lake
Superior State volleyball team went to the wire with Michigan
Tech.
The Huskies won the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic
Conference opener for both teams, claiming a 19-25, 25-18, 25-10,
21-25, 15-11 win Friday at the MTU Student Activity Center. LSSU
fell to 0-5 overall, while Michigan Tech improved to 4-6.
LSSU had attacking percentages over .300 during its two winning
sets. MTU hit an impressive .500 (11 kills, 20 attempts, 1 error)
during the match-deciding set. The Lakers posted a .120 attack rate
for the match.
Sophomore Gaby Olsen totaled 13 kills and an impressive .385
hitting percentage to lead the Lakers. Freshman Jen Marren followed
with 10 kills, while seniors Emily Snyder and Chloe Balanda had six
each.
Setter Janelle Nagy totaled 34 assists, while libero Meghan
Drobish had 14 digs. Snyder added nine digs and three service aces,
while Olsen and Balanda combined to total seven blocks.
Aubrey Ficek led MTU with 18 kills, and Sylvie Rokosh added
12.
LSSU returns to Northern Michigan Saturday.
