Box Score SOUTH BEND, Ind.- Lake Superior State (11-12-1) fell to former
Central Collegiate Hockey Association rivals, the Fighting Irish of
Notre Dame (14-8-1), by a score of 4-2 in the Saturday night game
at Compton Family Ice Arena.
The Lakers received goals from freshmen Alex Globke (9-14--23)
and Matt Johnson (4-1--5). However, Notre Dame rode the
performances of Steven Fogarty (two goals), Peter Schneider (goal
and assist) and the second goal of the weekend by Mario Lucia.
LSSU jumped out to an early lead when Globke tallied his ninth
goal of the season on assists from senior Dan Radke (3-12--15) and
freshman Garret Clemment (3-10--13). The Lakers took that one-goal
lead into the second period as senior Kevin Murdock (4-7-0) turned
away all 14 shots he faced in the period.
The Lakers' lead held until Fogarty scored a pair of goals in
under a minute to give Notre Dame a lead that it would not
relinquish. The Irish put up another goal on the scoreboard before
the end of the second period after a penalty against Chris Ciotti
(1-8--9) opened the door for Lucia's second goal of the weekend.
Murdock once again reached double-digit saves in the second period
as he turned away 12 of the 15 shots he faced.
Johnson delivered the final goal for the Lakers early in the
third period from Garret Clemment's second assist of the game and
third on the weekend. Stephen Perfetto (3-13--16) picked up his
second assist of the weekend.
UND senior netminder Steven Summeryhays (12-7-1) faced only 19
shots on the evening. Murdock surpassed the 40-save mark for the
second straight game. The Irish were 1-for-5 on the power play,
while LSSU finished 0-for-4.
The Lakers are on the road again next week as they travel to the
Western Collegiate Hockey Association's Bowling Green (Jan. 24
& 25).
