Box Score COLUMBUS, Ohio - Freshman guard Mackenzie Edwards, who averages
1.4 points per game, hit double figures for the first time during
her collegiate basketball career, scoring a season-high 11 points
during Lake Superior State's 59-55 win at Ohio Dominican on
Thursday.
LSSU (3-10 overall, 3-4 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic
Conference) improved its GLIAC road record to 2-1 heading into
Saturday's game at Tiffin.
April LaCross, Laura VanEs and Kandace Crittendon scored nine
points each for the Lakers, and Megan Manninen and Raven Trammell
added eight each. VanEs and Stephanie Fisher combined to total 11
rebounds.
The Lakers trailed 27-22 at halftime, and Edwards was scoreless
after a brief first-half appearance. Edwards and Trammell both had
two three-pointers during a 15-2 run that gave LSSU a 47-39 lead
with 10:44 remaining in the game.
Ohio Dominican came back to tie it, 51-51, with 5:11 to go, but
the Panthers were held to no field goals during the final 2:34.
LSSU was 7-for-8 at the line and out-scored ODU 8-2 during the
final stretch.
LSSU shot 36.5 percent from the field, including 6-of-27 from
three-point range. The Lakers made 15-of-23 free throws.
Megan Scherpenberg led Ohio Dominican (4-7 overall, 1-6 GLIAC)
with 19 points, and Kacee Hockenberry added 14. The Panthers shot
34.5 percent from the field, including 1-of-8 from behind the arc,
and made 16-of-22 free throws. They out-rebounded LSSU, 43-34.
The Lakers play at Tiffin at 1 p.m. Saturday.
