Box Score NOTRE DAME, Ind.- Lake Superior State men's ice hockey
dropped the second of their two game series Saturday night in a
battle of former Central Collegiate Hockey Association rivals. The
Lakers (0-6-0, 0-2-0 WCHA) are now winless in their past three
trips to Compton Family Ice Arena.
Kevin Aldridge (0-1-0) made his first career start,
turning away 27 shots in the effort. His counterpart, Cal Peterson
(1-1-0), ended his night with 27 saves on 28 shots.
The Fighting Irish were able to convert an early score by Jake
Evans, unassisted, 3:37 into the game. Mario Lucia, who scored a
goal during the first game, notched a goal after the Steven Fogarty
shot careened off of the back boards and out in front of the Lakers
net. The Lakers would go into the locker rooms for intermission
trailing in the shot category 12-11 and on the scoreboard 2-0.
The second period was all about the Lakers as they were able to
score the frame's loan goal on a beautiful give and go
between Stephen Perfetto (2-0-2) and Mitchell Nardi (0-2-2), giving Perfetto his second goal
of the series. Kyle Chatham was also credited with an assist
giving him his first point as a Laker. The period ended with the
Lakers leading in shots 21-19.
The Fighting Irish (2-2-0) extended their lead to 3-1 just 1:57
into the final frame when Lucia buried his second goal of the game
to make the lead 3-1. Following an Austin Wuthrich goal to give the
Irish a 4-1 lead, Lucia picked up a hat-trick-goal 1:15 later to
put the game out of reach. The goal was Lucia's fourth goal
of the series.
The Lakers return home next weekend to face WCHA rivals Northern
Michigan. The weekend will mark Great Lake State Weekend and the
season opener of the battle for the Cappo Cup.
