Box Score ANCHORAGE, Alaska- Lake Superior State men's ice hockey suffered
its ninth consecutive loss to open the season despite a
comeback effort against Alaska Anchorage, falling by a score of
3-2.
The Lakers (0-9-0, 0-5-0 Western Collegiate Hockey Association)
face off with Seawolves (4-1-2, 1-0-0) again Saturday night at
11:07 p.m. ET.
The Seawolves netted a power-play goal to open the scoring after
Jarrett Brown took advantage of an interference call on Aidan
Wright. Brown scored 4:48 into the game on a pass from Blake
Tatchell. Austin Coldwell was credited for the second assist.
The Seawolves scored early in the second period, putting them up
2-0 at 4:20. Tanner Johnson got the assist along with Tatchell
picking up his second of the evening on Derek Docken's goal.
Austin McKay (2-0-0) netted his second goal of
the season on a deflected shot by Oliver Mantha during a power
play. Eric Drapluk and Aidan Wright got their first
points on the season with the assists. For Wright, it was his first
career point as a Laker.
The Seawolves got their insurance goal, which proved to be the
game-winner, from Austin Sevalrud at 12:26 of the third period.
Tatchell picked up his third assist of the game on the goal, and
Anthony Conti was also credited for a helper.
The Lakers refused to give up, as Luke
Sandler scored his first goal as a Laker just 1:13 seconds
later. Wright and Jayson
Angus picked up the assists.
In net for the Lakers was Kevin
Aldridge (0-2-0), making only his second career start. Aldridge
fanned away 19 of the 22 shots he faced. Mantha (3-1-1) picked up
the win in net for the Seawolves after blocking 27 shots. LSSU
pulled Aldridge in the final 1:21 of play, but couldn't find the
tying goal with the man advantage.
The Lakers outshot their opponent for the first time this
season, 29-22. The Lakers were 1-for-4 on the powerplay, while the
Seawolves went 1-for-2.
