Box Score SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich.- Lake Superior State dropped the first
of two games against the Alaska Nanooks on Friday night by a score
of 7-5. The Lakers (2-11-0, 2-7-0 WCHA) hosted WCHA rivals Alaska
Nanooks (6-5-0, 1-5-0 WCHA) as part of the seventh annual Pink in
the Rink weekend.
The Lakers used all three goaltenders dressed during the game
after starting goaltender Kevin Aldridge (0-3-0) gave up four goals
on 20 shots and his replacement, Gordon Defiel, made 11 saves on 14
shots. Coach Damon Whitten decided to then give sophomore Peter
Megariotis his first playing time as a Laker with 12:31 remaining
in the third period. Megariotis made 2 saves in the relief
stint.
The game saw a lot of scoring in many sporadic, and momentum
turning bursts. The Nanooks were able to hold on late, however
after the were able to tack on two late goals.
Offensively, the Lakers were lead by Chris Ciotti (3-1--4)
scoring two goals, Stephen Perfetto (3-2--5) netting a goal and an
assist, and James Roll (0-5--5) with a pair of assists.
For the Nanooks, John Keeney (1-0-0) made 18 saves in the effort
to give Alaska the victory. Offensively, the Nanooks were lead by
Marcus Basara with two goals and an assist and Colton Parayko
netting a goal and two assists.
The Lakers and Nanooks will be back at it again Saturday night
for game two of the series at 7:07 pm.
