Box Score SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich.- Lake Superior State ice hockey finished
off Pink in the Rink weekend with an exciting 3-2 comeback-win in
overtime over Alaska to give them a split on the series. Stephen Perfetto (4-2--6) netted the overtime
game-winner to give the Lakers and head coach Damon
Whitten their first home win of the season.
Alaska (6-6-0, 1-5-0 WCHA) opened up the scoring in the second
period, after a scoreless first, with a Josh Atkinson goal with
2:54 remaining in the period. The Nanooks took a 1-0 lead into the
third period.
The Lakers (3-11-0, 3-7-0 WCHA) received a strike 14 seconds
into the final frame from leading-scorer Bryce Schmitt (5-5--10). Chris Ciotti (4-1--5), who has scored in three straight
games, gave the Lakers a brief 2-1 lead with 7:11 remaining
in regulation.
Shawn Hochhausen scored the tying-goal for the Nanooks 2:04
minutes later to force overtime.
Just under two minutes into the five minute overtime period, James Roll (0-7--7) intercepted a Nanooks' pass and
carried it across the the ice before unloading a shot that careened
off of an Alaskan defender. That was when Perfetto snagged the
rebound and slipped the game winner past a sprawling Davis Jones.
Roll was credited with his fourth assist on the weekend from the
game winner.
Gordon Defiel started the game in net for the Lakers
and picked up his third win of the season, and first home win as a
Laker. Defiel made 27 saves in the effort.
Jones made 22 saves for the Nanooks, however, was unable to
match Defiel's effort in game two.
The Lakers will again be at home next weekend as they face
Minnesota State- Mankato on Nov. 28-29.
