Box Score SAULT STE. MARIE - Lake Superior State scored 34 points off
Algoma University turnovers to maintain control of Tuesday's
non-conference men's basketball game at Bud Cooper Gymnasium. The
Lakers went to to win the pre-Thanksgiving contest, 93-64.
LSSU (3-1) forced 22 Algoma turnovers and compiled 21 points on
second-chance points after dominated the boards, 48-32. The
Thunderbirds made 12 three-pointers to stay within reach until Lake
Superior State extended a double-digit lead to 28 points with a
15-2 run midway through the second half.
Senior Tony Harris scored 13 points and compiled five steals to
lead Lake Superior State. Junior Devin Daly finished with 12 points
and 10 rebounds.
LSSU rookie starter Mike Nicholson also had a double double of
11 points and 10 rebounds. Coming off the bench freshman Josh
Goldschmidt scored 11 points and dished four assists, and freshman
Akaemji Williams added 10 points and four assists. Junior transfer
John Hafoka compiled eight rebounds during the final nine minutes
of action.
LSSU, which led 47-34 at halftime, shot 47 percent from the
field, including 11-of-29 from three-point range. The Lakers made
20-of-34 free throws.
Wais Mohamed scored 13 points and Samy Mohamed added 12 points
and five rebounds to lead Algoma University. Thomas Chalmers
finished with 10 points and five rebounds.
The Thunderbirds shot 41.1 percent from the field, including
12-of-34 from three-point range, and made 6-of-15 free throws.
LSSU begins Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play
Dec. 4 at Wayne State.
