Box Score SAULT STE. MARIE - Lake Superior State shut down a Walsh men's
basketball team that entered Saturday's Great Lakes Intercollegiate
Athletic Conference game averaging 82.6 points per game overall and
71 points per game in league play.
The Lakers held the Cavaliers to a season-low 29.1 percent from
the field to win 70-55 and extend their win streak to seven
games.
Walsh (5-3 overall, 1-3 GLIAC) took off to a 12-2 lead, but Lake
Superior State (7-1 overall, 4-0 GLIAC) maintained its composure
and dominated the final 16 minutes of the first half, 38-14. An
18-0 Laker run included points by Tony Harris, Josh Goldschmidt,
Alex Williams, Mike Smutny, Jake Blake, Mike Nicholson and Jordan
Dasuqi.
The Cavaliers closed within five points, 44-39, with 13:40
remaining in the second half. Dasuqi and Smutny hit three-pointers,
and Harris made a layup to give the Lakers a 13-point lead, 54-41,
with 10:16 to go. LSSU's biggest lead was 17 points, 66-49, at
3:35.
Harris totaled 12 points, five assists and three steals to lead
the Lakers. Williams and Dasuqi scored 10 points each, and
Nicholson added nine. Williams and Nicholson led LSSU in rebounds
with seven each, and Blake had six.
LSSU shot 48.3 percent from the field, including 8-of-23 from
three-point range, and made 6-of-8 free throws. The Lakers
out-rebounded Walsh, 38-35.
Jesse Hardin Jr. was 8-of-15 from behind the arc and led Walsh
with 27 points. The Cavaliers were 10-of-27 from three-point range
as a team and made 13-of-17 free throws.
The Lakers play host to Siena Heights at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
