Box Score SAULT STE. MARIE - Thirteen players scored points and six
reached double figures for the Lake Superior State men's basketball
team as the Lakers cruised to a 95-62 non-conference victory over
Siena Heights Thursday at Bud Cooper Gymnasium.
Alex Williams and Devin Daly scored 14 points each, and Jake
Blake, Mike Smutny Jordan Dasuqi and Josh Goldschmidt added 10 each
to lead the Lakers (8-1), who recorded their eighth straight
victory.
LSSU struggled with turnovers early and led 11-7 after six
minutes. The Lakers later extended a seven-point lead to 34 points
during a nine-minute span. They shot 57.9 percent (22-of-38) during
the first half and put the game out of reach early.
Daly also led LSSU in rebounds with six, and Blake, Akaemji
Williams and Dasuqi added five each. Tony Harris led in steals with
four.
Lake Superior State shot 53.7 percent from the field for the
game, including 7-of-18 from three-point range, and made 16-of-24
free throws. The Lakers dominated the boards, 41-28.
Jerrell Martin scored 14 points and Tyler Leighton added nine to
lead Siena Heights (6-7), for whom the game was an exhibition. The
Saints shot 42.9 percent from the field, including 4-of-8 from
three-point range, and made 16-of-25 free throws.
LSSU and Siena Heights met for the first time since the 1996-97
season.
The Lakers play another non-league contest at 2 p.m. Sunday
against Finlandia. Adult tickets are reduced to $5 and children
17-and-under will receive free admission to the game.
