Box Score SAULT STE. MARIE - Sophomore Mackenzie Edwards scored a
career-high 22 points and junior April LaCross had a double double
of 12 points and a career-high 11 rebounds to lead the Lake
Superior State women's basketball team to a 74-65 victory over
Finlandia Thursday at Bud Cooper Gymnasium.

Edwards canned a career-high six three-pointers, was 7-of-12
from the field, and totaled six rebounds and four assists to lead
the Lakers with a solid all-around performance.
LSSU (4-4) needed everything it could get on the offensive side
to match Finlandia standout Marissa Burke, who led all scorers with
36 points. Burke was 11-of-23 from the field and added five
rebounds.
Lake Superior State shot 57.1 percent from the field during the
first half to build a 44-31 halftime lead. The Lakers extended the
lead to 17 points, 55-38, early in the second half. Finlandia (5-6)
cut it to seven, 57-50 with 10:20 remaining.
Edwards hit a three-pointer at 10:05 of the second half to end
an 8-0 Lions run. She followed another three-pointer with a layup
to make it 65-51 with 7:45 remaining.
Kandace Crittendon and Kelsey Ance scored eight points and added
six rebounds each for LSSU. The Lakers shot 44.8 percent from the
field for the game, including 11-of-27 from three-point range, and
made 11-of-16 free throws. They out-rebounded Finlandia, 40-32.
The Lions shot 37.5 percent from the field, including 10-of-19
from behind the arc, and made 19-of-28 free throws.
The Lakers are off until a Jan. 2 game at Lake Erie.
