Box Score PAINESVILLE, Ohio - A timely 10-0 run late in the second half of
Friday's Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's
basketball game gave Lake Superior State the lift it needed to
secure its first GLIAC win of the 2014-15 season.
LSSU (5-4 overall, 1-4 GLIAC), which beat the Storm 48-44,
trailed by as many as seven points during the first half and nine
during the second. The Lakers were behind 38-30 until Stephanie
Fisher and Mackenzie Edwards ignited their team with three-pointers
at 7:20 and 6:41 of the second half. A Megan Manninen steal led to
Edwards' triple, and an April LaCross rebound led to a game-tying
layup by Kelsey Ance at 5:53.
Fisher hit a jumper at 5:04 to give LSSU its first lead of the
second half, 40-38.
Manninen made a layup at 1:59 to break a 42-42 deadlock. Fisher
hit what turned out to be a game-deciding three-pointer at the 1:20
mark.
Fisher finished with 18 points, five rebounds and four assists.
Edwards followed with eight points, and LaCross totaled nine
rebounds. LSSU shot 32.7 percent from the field, making 5-of-24
three-point attempts and 11-of-19 free throws. The Lakers
out-rebounded the Storm, 38-33.
Kaeding Skelton totaled 10 points and seven rebounds, and Morgan
Berry added nine points to lead Lake Erie (7-4 overall, 2-3 GLIAC).
The Storm shot 38.3 percent from the field, including 2-of-10 from
three-point range, and made 6-of-13 free throws.
LSSU held Lake Erie to season lows in three-pointers and free
throws made.
Lake Erie led 18-14 at halftime.
LSSU plays at Ashland at 1 p.m. Sunday.
