LAS VEGAS- Lake Superior State men's basketball opened the D2 Vegas Showdown with a 76-63 victory over Illinois-Springfield. Devin Daly scored 22 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to lead the Lakers (1-0) past the Prairie Stars (0-1).

Daly scored 18 of his game-high 22 points during the first half and collected 8 rebounds during the opening frame.

The Lakers trailed 16-11 early in the first half before Daly scored 18 of the Lakers' final 25 points of the half.

Three other Lakers scored double digits during the season-opening victory. Mike Nicholson and Carson Manger each contributed 12 points for the Lakers. Nicholson also hauled in eight rebounds.

Manger tied Akaemji Williams with four assists each for a game-high. Williams contributed nine points.

The Lakers held a 36-32 halftime lead before extending their lead with a 40-31 second half.

Nicholson went 4-4 from the floor for eight points and grabbed five rebounds during the second half to fend off the Prairie Stars.

The Lakers cap the weekend nonconference tournament against Southern Indiana on Saturday at 4 p.m. PT.
