Box Score SAULT STE. MARIE- Lake Superior State men's basketball raced out to a 23-point lead in the first half of a 77-54 victory over the University of Findlay in the opening game of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference schedule.
Carson Manger's first half total of 14 points and Devin Daly's 13 points in the opening frame helped the Lakers (4-1, 1-0 GLIAC) build a 50-27 lead before the break.
The Lakers hit 62.1 percent (18-for-29) of their shots from the floor in the first half, including 60 percent (9-for-15) from three-point range.
Daly scored a game-high 25 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for his third double-double of the season, while Manger netted a career-high 17 points in the victory.
Sophomore point guard Akaemji Williams scored 16 points and dished out a game-high eight assists.
A stout Lakers defense limited the Oilers (2-3, 0-1 GLIAC) to 35.8 percent from the field and 26.3 percent (5-for-19) from behind the arc. LSSU also forced Findlay into 16 turnovers, producing a 22-9 advantage in points-off-turnovers for the victorious Lakers.
Taren Sullivan and Elijah Kahlig each chipped in nine points to lead an Oilers unit that went without a player reaching double-digits in scoring for the first time this season.
The Oilers, who average 70.6 points per game, were held to under 60 points for the first time this season.
The Lakers close the opening weekend of GLIAC play at 3 p.m. on Saturday against Wayne State.
