Daly's double double and a career day for Nicholson gives Lakers edge over Warriors

SAULT STE. MARIE - With his third-straight double double and fourth on the season, senior Devin Daly led a second half surge that propelled Lake Superior State over Wayne State in Saturday's Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest, 76-61.

Daly, averaging 24.5 points per game and 10 rebounds per game, collected a career-high 28 points on 8-of-11 shooting from the floor, including 2-for-4 from behind the three point line and 10-for-12 from the free-throw stripe. The senior from Mahogany Heights, Belize also went 4-for-5 from the field and hit 6-of-7 free throws during the second half.

Daly also collected 10 rebounds and had a pair of blocks and a pair of steals in the contest.

After allowing the Warriors (0-5, 0-2 GLIAC) to hang around in the first half and only leading 32-26 at the break, the Lakers (5-1, 2-0 GLIAC) defense tightened up in the second half to roll to a 15-point victory.

Sophomore center Mike Nicholson had a career-high six blocks to go along with a career-high 16 points. Nicholson also hauled in six rebounds and dished out another career-high five assists.

Akaemji Williams rounded out the Lakers scorers to reach double figures with 18 points and also tied Nicholson for a game-high five assists.

Ronald Booth led the way for the Warriors with 24 points despite shooting 5-14 from the field. Booth went 3-for-5 behind the arc and also knocked down 11-of-12 free throws.

The Lakers are now tied atop the GLIAC North Division standings with Hillsdale, Northwood, and Saginaw Valley.

The Lakers next games are on the road at Malone on Dec. 10 and Walsh on Dec. 12.
