Box Score SAULT STE. MARIE - Grand Valley State answered every Lake
Superior State threat to win Thursday's Great Lakes Intercollegiate
Athletic Conference women's basketball game, 67-57.
GVSU's Kayla Dawson followed a three-pointer at 3:59 with a
layup at 3:15 to give her team a 60-55 lead. LSSU (3-15 overall,
7-15 GLIAC), which led four times during the second half, made only
one field goal during the final 3 1/2 minutes, allowing Grand
Valley (16-6 overall, 13-5 GLIAC) pulled away.
GVSU held onto second place in the GLIAC North Division with the
win. LSSU suffered its ninth straight loss.
Stephanie Fisher scored 19 points and Kelsey Ance added 11 to
lead Lake Superior State. Fisher and Mackenzie Edwards were a
combined 6-of-13 from three-point range. Fisher tied her GLIAC
season high of four triples in a game.
LSSU shot 45.8 percent from the field for the game, including
7-of-17 from behind the arc, and made 6-of-11 free throws.
The LSSU Lakers trailed 34-29 at halftime despite shooting 52.4
percent from the field during the first half. GVSU shot 50 percent
during the opening half.
Brionna Barnett scored 20 points and Piper Tucker added 15 to
lead Grand Valley State. Tucker also totaled eight rebounds and
GVSU held a 33-29 advantage at the boards. GVSU shot 42.9 percent
from the field, including 6-of-16 from three-point range, and made
13-of-15 free throws.
LSSU plays host to Ferris State at 1 p.m. Saturday.
