Box Score SAULT STE. MARIE - No. 24-ranked Lake Superior State overpowered
Ferris State with one of its best rebounding efforts of the season
and 11-of-21 shooting from three-point range to win 67-45 Saturday
at Bud Cooper Gymnasium.
The Lakers (21-4 overall, 16-3 Great Lakes Intercollegiate
Athletic Conference) moved into a tie with Saginaw Valley State for
first place in the GLIAC Men's Basketball North Division. SVSU
dropped to 16-3 in the conference following Saturday's 75-70 loss
at Michigan Tech. SVSU and LSSU lead third-place Ferris State (18-7
overall, 14-5 GLIAC) and MTU by two games. The Bulldogs have lost
four straight.
LSSU sophomore Jordan Dasuqi followed Thursday's 21-point
performance against Grand Valley State with a team-leading 19
points against FSU. He got the Lakers off to a hot start by making
3-of-5 three-pointers and scored 13 points during the first half.
He was 4-for-8 from behind the arc for the game.
Lake Superior State built a 32-22 halftime lead and enjoyed a
comfortable 21-point lead with 12:35 remaining. The Lakers' biggest
lead was 27 points.
LSSU freshman Josh Goldschmidt was 2-for-2 and rookie Akaemji
Williams 3-for-4 from three-point range. Devin Daly and Jake Blake
added one triple each.
Akaemji Williams finished with 14 points, and Goldschmidt added
eight. Daly led LSSU in rebounds with six, followed by Blake, Mike
Nicholson and Akaemji Williams with four each. Alex Williams
contributed three points, three rebounds, three assists and four
steals.
LSSU shot 45.2 percent from the field and 18-of-22 at the
free-throw line. The Lakers out-rebounded Ferris State, 34-26.
Dietrich Lever scored 12 points and Jared Stolicker 11 to lead
Ferris State. The Bulldogs shot 39.1 percent from the field,
including 4-of-19 from three-point range, and made 5-of-18 free
throws.
LSSU continues its homestand Thursday against Northern
Michigan.
