Box Score SAULT STE. MARIE - Shooting 7 percent from the field led to a
tough hill to climb for the Lake Superior State women's basketball
team Saturday at Bud Cooper Gym. Although the Lakers improved as
the game went on, they couldn't overcome an early 17-point deficit
and lost 63-50 to Ferris State.
LSSU (7-16 overall, 3-16 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic
Conference) improved its shooting to 19.2 percent by the end of the
first half and 27.6 percent for the game. Senior Stephanie Fisher
led the Lakers with 13 points, four rebounds and three assists.
Freshman Tamara Novic added eight points and six rebounds.
Ferris State (10-12 overall, 8-11 GLIAC) was led by Ally
Christman with 22 points. Katie Mavis added 10. Post standouts
Christina Branch and Rachel McInerney both added nine points and
eight rebounds.
The Bulldogs shot 40.9 percent from the field, including 5-of-15
from three-point range, and made 22-of-28 free throws. They
out-rebounded LSSU, 39-35.
LSSU plays host to Northern Michigan at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.
