Box Score HILLSDALE - Two of 21st-ranked Lake Superior State's best
showings of the season were during back-to-back Saturday's,
including today's 82-66 win at Hillsdale.
The Lakers (19-4 overall, 14-3 Great Lakes Intercollegiate
Athletic Conference) sandwiched the wins around one of their worst
performances of the season, which was Thursday's four-point loss at
Saginaw Valley State. They responded from that showing by shooting
a season-best 54.5 percent from the field against the Chargers
(10-11 overall, 8-9 GLIAC), who suffered their third straight
loss.
Eighty-two points also tied a Laker season high in GLIAC
competition.
With LSSU's win and Ferris State's two-point loss to Northern
Michigan, the Lakers moved into a second-place tie with the
Bulldogs in the GLIAC North Division and trail first-place Sagainw
Valley State by one game. Results of Saturday's SVSU-Northwood game
were not available. After playing six of seven games on the road
during a three-week stretch, the Lakers begin a four-game homestand
Feb. 12 against Grand Valley State.
LSSU led Hillsdale from start to finish, building a 14-3 lead
seven minutes into the game and enjoying a comfortable 43-28
command at halftime.
Senior Alex Williams, who finished with a game-high 24 points,
went on a Laker three-point shooting tear in the second half. He
was 4-for-6 from behind the arc and scored 17 points. Senior Tony
Harris also hit a three-pointer and scored nine of his 15 points
during the second half.
Devin Daly finished with 12 points. Daly and Jake Blake led the
Lakers in rebounds with seven each.
LSSU was 30-of-55 from the field, including 11-of-27 from
three-point range, and made 11-of-14 free throws. The Lakers
out-rebounded Hillsdale, 31-28.
Jason Pretzer totaled 13 points and nine rebounds and was
Hillsdale's only double-figure scorer. The Chargers shot 44 percent
from the field, including 9-of-20 from three-point range, and made
13-of-16 free throws.
