Lakers rebound from loss with big win at Hillsdale

Box Score

HILLSDALE - Two of 21st-ranked Lake Superior State's best showings of the season were during back-to-back Saturday's, including today's 82-66 win at Hillsdale.

The Lakers (19-4 overall, 14-3 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) sandwiched the wins around one of their worst performances of the season, which was Thursday's four-point loss at Saginaw Valley State. They responded from that showing by shooting a season-best 54.5 percent from the field against the Chargers (10-11 overall, 8-9 GLIAC), who suffered their third straight loss.

Eighty-two points also tied a Laker season high in GLIAC competition.

With LSSU's win and Ferris State's two-point loss to Northern Michigan, the Lakers moved into a second-place tie with the Bulldogs in the GLIAC North Division and trail first-place Sagainw Valley State by one game. Results of Saturday's SVSU-Northwood game were not available. After playing six of seven games on the road during a three-week stretch, the Lakers begin a four-game homestand Feb. 12 against Grand Valley State.

LSSU led Hillsdale from start to finish, building a 14-3 lead seven minutes into the game and enjoying a comfortable 43-28 command at halftime.

Senior Alex Williams, who finished with a game-high 24 points, went on a Laker three-point shooting tear in the second half. He was 4-for-6 from behind the arc and scored 17 points. Senior Tony Harris also hit a three-pointer and scored nine of his 15 points during the second half.

Devin Daly finished with 12 points. Daly and Jake Blake led the Lakers in rebounds with seven each.

LSSU was 30-of-55 from the field, including 11-of-27 from three-point range, and made 11-of-14 free throws. The Lakers out-rebounded Hillsdale, 31-28.

Jason Pretzer totaled 13 points and nine rebounds and was Hillsdale's only double-figure scorer. The Chargers shot 44 percent from the field, including 9-of-20 from three-point range, and made 13-of-16 free throws.
