Lakers lose late to Ferris State, 86-82

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - Lake Superior State men's basketball dropped a tightly contested Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference matchup with in-state rival Ferris State on Saturday, 86-82.

A spirited crowd of 552 fans inside Bud Cooper Gymnasium couldn't help propel the Lakers (13-5, 8-4 GLIAC) over the Bulldogs in a battle for sole possesion of 2nd place in the GLIAC North Division standings.

Sophomore guard Akaemji Williams scored 20 points for the Lakers who dropped to 3rd place in the GLIAC North race after the defeat. Williams was an assist shy of the double-double and also contributed a pair of steals defensively.

The Bulldogs (15-3, 9-3 GLIAC) were led by Noah King's 18 points off the bench and received 15-point outputs from seniors Jared Stolicker and and James Chappell. Stolicker, the leading rebounder in the GLIAC with 10.2 boards per contest, hauled in 10 rebounds to complete the double-double for FSU.

The Lakers also received double-digit scoring outputs from starters Jordan Dasuqi with 14 points on 5-of-8 shooting from the field and Devin Daly with 12 points and eight rebounds.

Senior forward Jake Blake netted 12 points and added five rebounds in 24 minutes of reserve work.

LSSU plays host to Upper Peninsula rivals Northern Michigan at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday and Michigan Tech at 3 p.m. next Saturday.
