ALLENDALE, Mich. – A strong second half bolstered Grand Valley State ahead of Lake Superior State on Thursday night as the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference North Division rivals battled to an 84-70 victory for GVSU.

The Lakers (16-8, 11-7 GLIAC) were led by guard Akaemji Williams who registered a double-double with 28 points and 10 assists. Williams also produced three steals.

Backing up Williams was senior forward Devin Daly. Daly netted 17 points and four rebounds.

Luke Ryskamp hit 9-of-14 shots from the field in scoring 24 points and also produced five rebounds in the winning effort for the GVSU Lakers (16-8, 10-8 GLIAC). GVSU closes to within a game behind LSSU for third place in the GLIAC North Division.

Chaz Rollins added 20 points on 7-of-9 shooting and 6-of-11 free throws in 28 minutes off the bench to help GVSU outscore LSSU 31-14 in bench scoring.

Trevin Alexander also contributed 11 points for GVSU in 27 minutes of reserve duty.

GVSU held a significant advantage in free throw shooting, going to the line 42 times and converting on 30 attempts. Meanwhile, LSSU went to the line just 12 times during the game and made nine shots from the charity stripe.

LSSU will next travel to Ferris State for a 3 p.m. meeting with the Bulldogs on Saturday.
