SAULT STE. MARIE - Sparked by a 15-2 run midway through the first half, Lake Superior State built a 21-point first half lead to roll past Hillsdale College Saturday in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men's basketball action.

The Lakers (16-7, 11-6 GLIAC) were led by a first-half explosion from junior guard Jordan Dasuqi who scored 16 points on 6-for-7 shooting from the field, including 4-for-5 from the three-point line during the opening 20 minutes. Dasuqi finished with 21 points and seven rebounds.

LSSU shot 54.8 percent (34-for-62) from the field and 40 percent (10-for-25) from behind the arc for the game and limited the Chargers to 39.2 percent from the field and just 17.6 percent (3-for-17) from three.

Senior Devin Daly scored 17 points for the Lakers and also added seven rebounds while playing tight defense on Kyle Cooper throughout the game. Daly helped limit the GLIAC leading scorer, Cooper (22.0 points per game), to just 10 points on 2-for-9 shooting from the field.

Sophomore guard Akaemji Williams recorded a double-double with 12 points and 13 assists while efficiently executing the Laker offense. Williams also registered a pair of steals on the defensive end.

The 13 assists from Williams marked half of the Lakers' season-high 26 helpers for the game.

Off the bench, Carson Manger (12 points) and Jake Blake each turned in double-digit performances for the Lakers. Manger hit on 5-of-8 shots from the floor during 17 minutes of work, while Blake scored on 5-of-6 shots from the floor including a thunderous dunk with 8:20 left in regulation to put the Lakers up by 32.

The victory, coming in front of 512 fans inside Cooper Gymnasium for LSSU Basketball Alumni weekend, snapped a two-game losing streak and hold on to sole possession of third place in the GLIAC North Division standings.

The Chargers (12-9, 8-9 GLIAC) have now lost three-straight and are tied with Michigan Tech and Northwood, who plays Saginaw Valley later Saturday evening, for fifth place in the North division.

LSSU begins a four-game road stretch Thursday at Grand Valley State before returning home for a Feb. 25 meeting with Northwood to cap the regular season.
