Lakers fall to Huskies 73-51

HOUGHTON, Mich. - Lake Superior State women's basketball fell on the road against Michigan Tech in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play Saturday, 73-51.

The Huskies (12-4, 8-3 GLIAC) took a 37-28 lead at halftime on the strength of 50 percent shooting from the field (16-32). The Lakers (4-14, 2-9 GLIAC) struggled with 11 turnovers in the second half and hit just 11 field goals in the final two quarters of play.

Tamara Novic led the Lakers off the bench with a team-high 15 points and eight rebounds in 19 minutes of action. The junior center and native of Belgrade, Serbia, went six-of-eight from the field and made three-of-six free throws.

Three LSSU starters reached double figures in scoring with Mackenzie Edwards chipping in 14 points and sophomores Rachel Novotny and Valerie Meissner each scoring 10 points.  Edwards tallied a team-high six assists for the Lakers.

MTU was led by Brenna Heise with a game-high 18 points on 8-of-11 shooting from the floor, four rebounds and three assists. Morgan Anderson contributed 17 points for the Huskies and had a game-high seven assists.

The Lakers remain on the road next week with GLIAC games at Saginaw Valley State on Thursday evening at 6 p.m. and at Wayne State on Saturday at 3 p.m.
