ANCHORAGE, Alaska. — The Lake Superior State hockey team extended its winning streak to three Friday evening with a 3-2 overtime victory over Alaska Anchorage in the opener of a two-game Western Collegiate Hockey Association series at the Seawolves' Sullivan Arena.

With the win, LSSU moves to 9-20-4 overall on the season, 7-15-3 in league action and earn all three WCHA points to keep their postseason push on track. UAA slips to 2-23-4, 2-18-3 and are officially eliminated from tournament contention.

LSSU got their offense going early when William Riedell scored his second goal of the season at 5:26 mark of the first period with help from Brayden Gelsinger (9).

Later in the first, freshman forward Hampus Erikkson (3) extended the lead, 2-0, with a power play goal at the 12:59 mark coming on assists from Gage Torrel (11) and Diego Cuglietta (15).

The Seawolves got on the board in the final minutes of the period when Jeremiah Luedtke scored at the 18:51 mark to draw within one goal heading into the intermission.

After a scoreless second period, Alaska Anchorage knotted the score, 2-2, at the 10-minute mark of the third period on goal from Alec Butcher. Lake Superior couldn't find a goal in the last 10 minutes of regulation sending the game to bonus time.

Halfway through the first five-minute overtime period, junior forward Anthony Nellis fired a one-timer from J.T. Henke (17) past UAA netminder, Olivier Mantha, sending the Lakers to a game-one victory.

Junior goaltender Nick Kossoff continued a stretch of stellar performances in between the pipes for Lake Superior allowing just two goals on 33 shots faced.

The Lakers were outshot, 33-25, in the contest and went 1-of-2 on the power play. The LSSU penalty kill was a perfect 2-of-2 on the night.

Lake State will look for their second-consecutive conference sweep tomorrow night as they take on UAA in the series finale at 11:07 p.m. EST
