INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Lake Superior State women's volleyball team closed out the Midwest Region Crossover Tournament with a pair of wins against the Ohio Dominican Panthers and the Alderson Broaddus Battlers on Saturday, Oct. 19 at the Academy in Indianapolis, Ind. The Lakers overall record improves to 8-12 which ties the most wins that the program has had since the 2011-12 season.

In the opening game of the day, the Lakers defeated the Ohio Dominican Panthers in straight sets by scores of 25-16, 25-19 and 25-23. It marked the Lakers third consecutive win this season, something that the program has not done in over nine seasons. Leading the way for the Lakers was senior outside hitter Amanda Reid who tallied a team-leading 18 kills in the match along with a .387 hitting percentage, which ranked second on the Lakers. Sophomore Camdyn Odykirk's .444 hitting percentage was the highest while her nine kills were second on the team. The Lakers combined for 48 kills in the match compared to Ohio Dominican's 30 total kills.

Sophomore Halle Grulke, the team's setter, complied 35 assists in the victory for the Lakers. Defensively, the team's play was strong as the Lakers recorded 52 total digs in the game. Libero Abby Beachnau's 20 digs was the most among her teammates in the win. Every Laker but one recorded at least one dig in the game, with five players notching five or more against the Panthers.

The Lakers finished the weekend strong with another victory, this time against Alderson Broaddus in three sets. Lake Superior State clinched the team's fourth straight win by scores of 25-12, 25-16 and 25-17.

Reid would lead the Lakers in kills with 14 total but the offense was balanced in the win with four other players notching five or more kills in the match: sophomore Bethany Wilson (7), freshman Malia Howe (6), senior Caitlyn Kane (6), Odykirk (5). The team's combined hitting percentage was a .358 in the match.
