Lakers Win Thriller against Wisconsin Parkside, 62-60

KENOSHA, Wisc. - The Lake Superior State men's basketball team recorded a last second 62-60 victory over the Wisconsin-Parkside Rangers in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) game on Thursday, Feb. 20 in Kenosha, Wisc. 

Through the first nine minutes of play, the Lakers and the Rangers were tied at 10 points each as freshman Dan Few evened the score at 11:33. Parkside would go on a seven point run to go ahead 19-12 but the Lakers would respond with nine straight points to take the lead with just over five minutes remaining in the first half (21-19). The first half would close with Justin Fischer making a layup in the final seconds to tie the game at 30 following the opening 20 minutes of play. 

Ke'Montrece Collins opened the scoring in the second half as he went two-for-two on free throw attempts. The next stretch of play featured the lead swapping between the two conference rivals as freshman Xander Okerlund would tie the game at 35 with a three-point jump shot and then Collins would make a jump shot seconds later to once again tie the game at 37. 

At 12:49 of the second half, Jackson Schrameyer sunk a three-point shot for the Lakers to make it an even game with the Rangers again (42-42). By the halfway mark of the second half, the Lakers would hold a three point lead thanks to a layup from Nigel Colvin that put the team up 46-43. 

With three minutes left in the game, the Lakers and Rangers were tied at 56. Fischer would make two layups for the Lakers in the closing minute of the game to secure a 62-60 victory against Parkside, securing critical conference points as the Lakers look to make the playoffs. 

Fischer led the team with 13 points in the game while also contributing five rebounds and six assists.

The Lakers will complete the weekend series on Saturday, Feb. 22 in an afternoon game against Purdue Northwest. Tipoff is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
