Laker Hockey Skates to a 2-2 Tie against the St. Lawrence Saints

Box Score

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - The Lake Superior State hockey team skated to a 2-2 tie against the St. Lawrence Saints in a noncoference meeting on Friday, Oct. 29 at the Taffy Abel Arena. With the tie, the Lakers overall record improves to 5-3-1 this season.

Dustin Manz and Miroslav Mucha scored the Laker goals while Ethan Langenegger stopped 23 shots in the tie.

The Lakers opened the game's scoring at 8:16 of the first period when Dustin Manz scored his second goal of the season to give the team a 1-0 lead. Manz fired off a quick shot from the slot after being set up by Joshua Wildauer who was just outside the crease. Logan Jenuwine, who connected a pass to Wildauer, recorded the secondary assist on the goal.

Play remained scoreless until 13:43 of the second period when Miroslav Mucha netted his second goal of the season and extended his point streak to a career-high four games. The goal was scored following an extended shift in the offensive zone by the Lakers. Junior forward Brandon Puricelli collected the puck in the corner and sent a pass back to Artyom Borshyov at the blue line. Borshyov, a sophomore defenseman, skated in and slid a pass to Mucha, who was open just outside of Saints netminder Emil Zetterquist. Mucha sent the puck high into the St. Lawrence net for a 2-0 lead.

Later in the second period, the Saints would tally two quick goals to tie the score at two. At 15:58 of the period, Max Dorrington got St. Lawrence on the board with his first collegiate goal and junior forward Cameron Buhl followed with a goal less than two minutes later to even the game.

In the final twenty minutes of regulation, neither team scored and the game stood at 2-2 following 60 minutes of play. The Laker penalty killers killed off a five minute major that was assessed to Arvid Henrikson to keep the game tied.

The teams played a five minute three-on-three overtime period to determine a winner but neither team scored in the extra frame. The Lakers dominated the overtime session outshooting the Saints 5-1, with a number of Grade A opportunities.

Langenegger and Zetterquist both finished the game with 23 saves.

The Lakers and Saints will wrap up the weekend nonconference series tomorrow at 6:00 p.m.at the Taffy Abel Arena. The game will be available to stream on FloHockey. Fans can tune in to listen to Bill Crawford and Matt Pocket on the radio call on 99.5 YES FM.
