Laker Hockey Falls to No. 17 Michigan Tech for Series Split

Box Score

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - The Lake Superior State hockey program (3-13-2, 2-8-1 CCHA) fell to the No. 17 Michigan Tech Huskies (11-5-3, 7-4-3 CCHA) by a final score of 5-1 on Saturday.

Both teams would battle early, but Ethan Langenegger (Kamloops, B.C.) would find himself tested at the 1:42 mark of the opening period, denying a penalty shot from the Huskies. However, Jack Works would open up the scoring for Michigan Tech with an unassisted goal at the 8:25 mark. Kyle Kukkonen would then take advantage of a power-play opportunity late in the opening period to push the score to 2-0 going into the intermission.

Levi Stauber and Tristan Ashbrook would each find the back of the net in the second period to extend the Huskies' lead to 4-0, prompting Seth Eisele (Lake Elmo, Minn.) to enter in relief between the pipes.

Michigan Tech would score one final time at the 2:39 mark of the third period with a strike from Tyrone Bronte. With the game appearing bleak, senior captain Louis Boudon (Grenoble, France) would breathe life into Taffy Abel Arena, stealing away the puck and converting a power-play goal, unassisted, his seventh of the season. However, it would not be enough as the Lakers split the series with Michigan Tech after falling by a final score of 5-1.

Connor Milburn (Kamloops, B.C.), Dawson Tritt (Spokane, Wash.), and Artyom Borshyov (Vitebsk, Belarus) would all tie to lead all players with three blocked shots each in their defensive zone.

The Lakers will now turn their attention to the Kwik Trip Holiday Face-Off in Milwaukee, Wis. where they are set to take on the Wisconsin Badgers on Wednesday, Dec. 28 at 7:30 p.m. Central Standard Time before facing either Massachusetts or Clarkson on Thursday, Dec. 29.
