Westcott's Hat Trick Propels Lakers Past the Saints

Box Score

CANTON, N.Y. - The Lake Superior State (LSSU) hockey team (3-3-0) defeated the St. Lawrence Saints (1-4-1) by a final score of 5-2 on Saturday after a hat trick from Jared Westcott (Imperial, Mo.).

Saint Lawrence was able to get on the board first with a strike from Cameron Buhl at the 11:00 mark, but after battling throughout the rest of the period, Westcott tied up the score at 1-1 with less than 30 seconds remaining in the first 20 minutes of action with assists from Nate Schweitzer (Champlin, Minn.) and Timo Bakos (Augsburg, Germany).

Both defenses proved to be stingy for a majority of the second period, but at the 17:45 mark, Connor Milburn (Kamloops, B.C.) took advantage of a power play situation, scoring his fourth goal of the season and extending his point streak to five games. Jordan Venegoni (Livonia, Mich.) picked up the lone assist on the play after setting up Milburn in front of the goal.

Just over four minutes into the third period, Westcott quieted the crowd with his second goal of the night with assists from freshman Ross Roloson (Woodbury, Minn.) and captain Harrison Roy (Lakeville, Mass.). Then, Westcott would complete the first Laker hat trick since the 2021-22 season with an empty-netter with an assist from Milburn. Felikss Gavars would score a power play goal for the Saints in the final minute, but Roloson scored another empty-netter after taking assists from his brother Brett Roloson (Worcester, Mass.) and Cam Kungle (Red Deer, Alb.) for the Lakers to ice away the 5-2 Laker win.

Laker goaltender Ethan Langenegger (Kamloops, B.C.) picked up his second win between the pipes on the weekend after making 28 saves while Westcott, Milburn, and Ross Roloson each had multiple points on the night. Evan Bushy (Thief River Falls, Minn.) would also have a strong outing defensively with a team-leading three blocks.

The Lakers return to action on Friday, Nov. 3 when they open CCHA play in Taffy Abel Arena against Bemidji State with the first puck drop scheduled for 7:07 p.m.
