Laker Hockey Face Setback in Ledyard Classic Semifinal

Box Score

HANOVER, N.H. – The Lake Superior State (LSSU) hockey program (9-10-1, 6-6-1 CCHA) fell in their opening game at the Ledyard Classic to the host Dartmouth Big Green (3-3-6, 2-1-4 ECAC) by a final score of 4-0 on Friday.

Both teams spent the opening period, feeling one another out with Laker goaltender Ethan Langenegger (Kamloops, B.C.) stopping all nine shots he faced to keep the game scoreless after the first 20 minutes. However, early in the second period, Cooper Flinton opened the scoring for the Big Green, and Joey Musa was able to extend the lead to 2-0 at the 9:48 mark.

Ryan Sorkin added one more late in the third period, and Dartmouth was able to ice the game away with an empty-netter in the final minute.

Despite the loss, Artyom Borshyov (Vitebsk, Belarus) and Cam Kungle (Red Deer, Alta.) led all players with three blocks each, and the Laker penalty kill unit was able to hold Dartmouth scoreless on the power play.

The Lakers will look to bounce back in the Ledyard Classic third-place game on Saturday, Dec. 30 against RIT with puck drop scheduled for 4 p.m.
