Laker Hockey Falls to Michigan Tech in Defensive Battle

Box Score

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - The Lake Superior State (LSSU) hockey program (12-14-1, 9-9-1 CCHA) fell to the Michigan Tech Huskies (11-11-5, 8-7-1 CCHA) in a 1-0 defensive battle in which both teams left it all on the ice.

Easton Hesse (Beaumont, Alta.) continued his impressive weekend between the pipes after stopping 33 of 34 shots that he faced, keeping the Huskies scoreless through 40 minutes as he dueled Husky All-American Blake Pietila. Both defenses gave everything they had, including 18 blocks by the Lakers to take pressure off of Hesse with three coming from each of Bryan Huggins (Grand Rapids, Mich.), Dawson Tritt (Spokane, Wash.), and Cam Kungle (Red Deer, Alta.), and the Laker penalty kill unit showed why they are fourth in the nation in stopping the opposing power play (87.8%), stopping all four of the Huskies' extra-man opportunities.

However, at the 7:36 mark of the third period, Ryland Mosley was able to break the stalemate with the lone goal of the contest.

The Lakers will now enter a bye week before returning to action on Feb. 9 when they travel to face the Bowling Green Falcons with puck drop scheduled for 7:07 p.m.
