PLYMOUTH, Mich. - The Lake Superior State (LSSU) hockey program came away with a decisive 6-1 exhibition victory over the USNTDP U-18 squad on Friday behind a 4-point night from John Herrington (Hudson's Hope, B.C.) to go along with three more points from Reagan Milburn (Kamloops, B.C.).
Luke Levandowski (Rosemount, Mich.) got things started for the Lakers with the opening score at the 12:50 mark of the first period with some help from Branden Piku (Harrison Twp., Mich.) to help his team to a 1-0 lead after the opening period.Â
LSSU would then pile it on with three more goals in the second period. R. Milburn would strike quickly out of the break with the eventual game-winner less than two minutes into the second stanza, and Herrington would reward passes from Everett Pietila (Howell, Mich.) and captain Grant Hindman (Oakland, Mich.) a few minutes later. R. Milburn was then able to score his second of the night at the 14:00 mark to extend the lead to 4-0 with some help from Herrington and Evan Bushy (Thief River Falls, Minn.) on the power play. Charley Tretheway was able to get the Under 18s on the board late in the period, but the Lakers still found themselves ahead 4-1 going into the second intermission.Â
Connor Milburn (Kamloops, B.C.) was able to get in on the action with a goal of his own midway through the third before Herrington tacked on the exclamation point with just over a minute to play in regulation, capping off an emphatic 6-1 victory for LSSU.Â
11 different Lakers notched a point on the night, led by Herrington's four and three from R. Milburn. Meanwhile, Rorke Applebee (Chateauguay, Que.) picked up the win between the pipes after stopping 13 of 14 shots in 40 minutes of action before Easton Hesse (Beaumont, Alta.) saved a perfect 6/6 attempts he faced in relief for the third period.Â
The Lakers will look to keep the momentum going for their second exhibition contest of the weekend when they face Simon Fraser on Saturday, Oct. 12 with puck drop scheduled for 3 p.m. at USA Hockey Arena.
