SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - The Lake Superior State volleyball program (7-13, 2-7 GLIAC) fell to the Rangers of Wisconsin-Parkside (8-12, 4-5 GLIAC) by a score of 3-0 on Friday.
Both teams battled early in the opening set with the Lakers getting kills from Shea Berisoff (Kelowna, B.C.) and Morgan Deming (Boyne City, Mich.), but the Rangers were able to pull out ahead and take the opening set.
Parkside opened the second set with a 3-0 run, but the Lakers responded with a 3-0 scoring spurt of their own with kills from Berisoff and Valeriya Varnakova (Ufa, Russia). However, the Rangers were once again able to pull ahead, and despite more kills from Berisoff and Deming, Parkside managed to take the second set.
The Rangers got off to the early lead in the third set, but the Lakers responded with kills from Giselle Wiitanen (Mt. Pleasant, Mich.) and Mariana Velasque (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil). Both teams would then trade points with the Lakers scoring kills from Rachel Steele (Eaton Rapids, Mich.) and Varnakova, and the Lakers would rally late with a 5-1 run that featured a service ace from Mia Garcia (Carolina, Puerto Rico). However, the Rangers would ultimately close out the set and the match by respective scores of 25-20 and 3-0.
LSSU will look to bounce back on Saturday, Oct. 26 when they host the Purdue Northwest Pride with the first serve scheduled for 2 p.m.
