TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. - The Lake Superior State (LSSU) hockey team (4-6-0, 3-1-0 CCHA) fell to the Ferris State Bulldogs (3-9-2, 2-6 CCHA) by a final score of 3-2 in the Superior Ice Showdown at Centre Ice Arena on Saturday.
Both teams battled early with the defenses holding one another scoreless through 20 minutes, but after the intermission, the floodgates would soon open in the Cherry Capital.Â
Timo Bakos (Augsburg, Germany) continued to stay hot with his fourth goal in his last five games with a strike on the power play just over a minute into the second period, and Connor Milburn (Kamloops, B.C.) followed suit, extending the LSSU lead to 2-0 at the 6:02 mark. However, Ferris State would not go down so easily, scoring twice in less than ten seconds of game time to tie up the game.
Both teams continued to raise the intensity as the third period moved back into a defensive battle, but 15:25 into the period, Tyler Schleppe scored his second goal of the night to put the Bulldogs in front for good.Â
Despite the loss, Milburn and Bakos each had multi-point performances, and the Laker penalty kill unit continued to remain perfect on the season at 37-37.
The Lakers will now turn their attention to a nonconference journey to the last frontier when they travel to face Alaska Anchorage with puck drop for game 1 scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 23 at 10:07 p.m. Eastern Time.
