COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Lake Superior State (LSSU) hockey program (1-5-0) fell to the Ohio State Buckeyes (7-0-1) by a final score of 6-2 on Saturday.
The Buckeyes opened up the scoring for the second consecutive night with a score from Ryan Gordon at the 2:31 mark of the opening period.Â
Ohio State would then come out swinging to start the second period, tacking on three goals in the first 3.5 minutes of the period. William Smith would then add one more to push the OSU lead to 5-0 at the 10:51 mark.Â
Carter Batchelder (Savage, Minn.) put the Lakers on the board after finishing off a breakaway toward the net in the closing seconds of the second period with Luke Levandowski (Rosemount, Mich.) and captain Grant Hindman (Oakland, Mich.) picking up assists on the play, and Timo Bakos (Augsburg, Germany) kept the momentum going 1:19 into the third with the Lakers' second goal of the night with help from Jordan Venegoni (Livonia, Mich.) and Reagan Milburn (Kamloops, B.C.). However, the Buckeyes were able to ice the game away with an empty-netter to secure the victory.
The Lakers will look to bounce back next week when they open CCHA play with games 1 and 2 of the 2024-25 Cappo Cup Series at Northern Michigan with puck drop for game one scheduled for 7:07 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 8.
