PREVIEW: Laker Hockey Set for Thanksgiving Weekend Battle at St. Thomas

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - The Lake Superior State (LSSU) hockey team (5-6-1, 3-1-0 CCHA) is set to travel and face the St. Thomas Tommies (3-6-4, 2-3-3 CCHA) to resume CCHA action.

The Lakers hold a 7-6 record against the Tommies since STU made the jump from NCAA Division III to join the CCHA, including a tightly contested Mason Cup Playoff series last season that saw LSSU eliminate the Tommies in three games as Dawson Tritt (Spokane, Wash.) scored the game-winning goal with 6.6 seconds remaining in regulation.

Stories to watch:
  • The Lakers are coming off of a tie and a win at Alaska Anchorage while the Tommies most recently faced a draw and a loss at the hands of Bemidji State.
  • This weekend will mark the first meeting of the season between Co-CCHA Preseason Players of the Year Connor Milburn (Kamloops, B.C.) and Lucas Wahlin.
  • Timo Bakos (Augsburg, Germany) enters the weekend as the reigning CCHA Forward of the Week after scoring three goals and an assist at UAA, including the game-winner on Nov. 24.
  • Liam Malmquist is the leading scorer for St. Thomas with 14 points (5G, 9A) while Cooper Gay has been their top goal-scorer with 7 on the season.
  • C. Milburn took sole possession of the team lead in points for LSSU with 10 while Bakos leads the Lakers in goals with 6.
  • Evan Bushy (Thief River Falls, Minn.) enters the weekend as the team's leader in assists with 8.
  • 20 different Lakers have recorded at least one point so far this season while 14 Lakers have scored at least one goal.
