ALLENDALE, Mich. - The Lake Superior State volleyball team (7-18, 2-12 GLIAC) fell on the road to the Grand Valley State (GVSU) Lakers (23-2, 12-2 GLIAC) by a final score of 3-0 on Saturday.
GVSU was able to take the early advantage, but LSSU kept fighting with a pair of kills from Morgan Deming (Boyne City, Mich.). LSSU continued to battle with back-to-back kills from Gia Waters (Minneapolis, Minn.), but GVSU was able to hold off the attack to claim the opening set.
GVSU struck first in the second set, but LSSU responded with a 4-0 run to tie the score at 5-5 with a pair of kills from Waters. Both teams continued to trade blows, answering one another at every turn, including a 6-1 LSSU run that featured three consecutive kills from Deming to tie the score at 18-18. However, Grand Valley managed to settle in to close out the second set 25-20.
LSSU claimed the early lead in the third set with kills from Shea Berisoff (Kelowna, B.C.) and Waters. However, despite a pair of kills from Mariana Velasque (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil), GVSU was able to pull ahead to take the set and the match by respective scores of 25-13 and 3-0.
The Lakers return to action on Friday, Nov. 15 when they host the Northern Michigan Wildcats in Bud Cooper Gymnasium with the first serve scheduled for 5 p.m.
