HOUGHTON, Mich. - The Lake Superior State (LSSU) hockey team (9-12-1, 7-7-0 CCHA) fell by a narrow margin of 1-0 in a defensive battle on the road against the Michigan Tech Huskies (12-8-2, 8-4-2) on Saturday.
Both teams brought the intensity throughout the night. However, neither side was able to break through to find the back of the net, and both teams found themselves scoreless through 40 minutes of action.
At the 2:37 mark of the third period, Owen Baker would finally break the scoring drought to put the Huskies in front. The Lakers kept fighting in search of the equalizer, but the Michigan Tech defense proved to be too strong as the Huskies held on to split the series.Â
Despite the loss, LSSU goaltender Rorke Applebee (Chateauguay, Que.) was able to put together another strong performance with 30 saves on the night.
The Lakers return to action on Friday, Jan. 17 when they host St. Thomas in Taffy Abel Arena with puck drop scheduled for 7:07 p.m.
