PREVIEW: Laker Hockey Set to Host the Tommies

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - The Lake Superior State (LSSU) hockey program (9-12-1, 7-7-0 CCHA) is set to host the St. Thomas (UST) Tommies (8-10-4, 5-6-3 CCHA) for a two-game CCHA series in Taffy Abel Arena.

Stories to watch:
  • LSSU has led the series between the two programs since the Tommies made the jump to NCAA Division I for the 2021-22 season and joined the CCHA, including a 3-1 record over St. Thomas in Taffy Abel Arena.
  • Earlier this season, the Lakers swept the Tommies in Mendota Heights, first with a 4-2 win on Friday before recording a 5-3 victory the following day.
  • Following the prior meetings, Connor Milburn (Kamloops, B.C.) was named CCHA Forward of the Week after a five-point weekend against St. Thomas.
  • The Lakers were also responsible for eliminating St. Thomas from the 2024 Mason Cup Playoffs after Dawson Tritt (Spokane, Wash.) scored the game-winning goal with 6.6 seconds remaining in regulation in game three of the opening round series.
  • This will mark the second meeting of the season between CCHA Co-Preseason Players of the Year in LSSU's C. Milburn and UST's Lucas Wahlin.
  • The Tommies have recovered from a slow start to their season in recent weeks, winning their last four games and five of their last six.
  • C. Milburn enters the weekend leading the team in points with 17 while  SashaTeleguine (North Attleborough, Mass.) (15), Timo Bakos (Augsburg, Germany) (15), Nate Schweitzer (Champlin, Minn.) (13) John Herrington (Hudson's Hope, B.C.) (12), Tritt (12), and Evan Bushy (Thief River Falls, Minn.) (10) have also notched double-digit points so far this season.
  • Teleguine is currently having a break out season as he ranks tied for first in the CCHA for goal scoring with 11, including a 4-goal weekend against Bemidji State.
  • Schweitzer enters the weekend leading the team in assists with 12 which ranks fifth in the CCHA.
