MT. PLEASANT, Mich. - The Lake Superior State track and field program competed at the Jack Skoog Invitational, hosted by Central Michigan, on Friday with nine different Lakers setting new personal bests on the day.
Shane Izzard (Petoskey, Mich.), Michael Featherstone (Constantine, Mich.), and Skylar Williams (Battle Creek, Mich.) each earned a top-10 placement in the 400-meter dash, led by Izzard's time of 54.05 which was good enough for fourth place. Izzard would then continue his strong outing with a 6th place finish in the 600-meter run with a time of 1:28.97.
Elijah Sprague (Rudyard, Mich.) would then finish sixth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:11.51, and Gavin Guggemos placed 7th overall in the men's mile with a time of 4:29.15.
Three Lakers finished in the top ten of the men's 3,000-meter run, led by Guggemos's time of 9:23.40 for sixth place while Ethan Nachazel (East Jordan, Mich.) and Connor Rouse (Genesee, Mich.) placed seventh and tenth, respectively. Meanwhile, Derrian Kumfer (Romeo, Mich.) recorded a personal record time of 9:56.00 in the event.
In the 60-meter hurdles, Avery Timm (Petoskey, Mich.) placed fourth overall in the finals with a personal best time of 8.91.
Rayce Rizzo placed second in the pole vault after clearing a height of 4.10m, and in the long jump, Timm placed third overall with a distance of 6.15m while Noah Murray (Macomb, Mich.) placed sixth with a distance of 5.82m.
Trey Nieman (Morenci, Mich.) placed third overall in the men's weight throw with a personal best distance of 14.95m. Meanwhile, Ethan Ring (Fair Haven, Mich.) and Terry Sigler each set new personal records of their own in the weight throw and shot put, respectively.
On the women's side, Kara Mosher (Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.) placed third in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:10.66.
In the 800-meter run, Sydney Kapushinski (Imlay City, Mich.) and Madison Morgan (Chelsea, Mich.) each placed in the top ten of the event with Kapushinski and Grace Kreps (Goulais River, Ont.) each setting new personal records in the event with respective times of 2:33.02 and 2:54.19.
Izzy Yeoman (Genesee, Mich.) placed seventh in the women's mile with a time of 5:21.26 while Morgan recorded a personal best time of 5:42.18.
Yeoman and Noel Black (Otsego, Minn.) would then each place in the top five of the women's 3,000-meter run with respective times of 10:49.91 and 10:52.77.
Keira Lamming (Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.) earned a sixth place finish in the 60-meter hurdles finals with a time of 10.85, and she would then go on to clear a new personal best height of 1.50m in the high jump. Meanwhile, Jayda Williams (Claxton Bay, Trinidad) leapt for a distance of 4.91m in the long jump for a third place finish in the event.
Janelle Docter (Howard City, Mich.) would then earn a fifth place finish in the shot put after throwing for a distance of 13.18m.
The Lakers return to action on Friday, Jan. 31 when they travel to compete at the SVSU Jet's Pizza Invitational.
