PREVIEW: Laker Hockey Travels to Sioux Falls to Battle Augustana

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - The Lake Superior State (LSSU) Lakers (9-13-2, 7-8-1 CCHA) are set to travel to Sioux Falls, S.D. for their first ever games in Midco Arena when they take on the Augustana Vikings (14-7-3, 6-3-1 CCHA).
  • Both teams split their two games last season with the Lakers earning a 3-0 shutout in game one before the Vikings flipped the script for a 3-0 shutout of their own the following night.
  • The Vikings enter the weekend ranked No. 19 in the USCHO poll, marking the first ever appearance in the national rankings for Augustana.
  • The Lakers will be looking for a pair of strong goaltending performances from Rorke Applebee (Chateauguay, Que.) and Easton Hesse (Beaumont, Alta.) in order to keep pace with Viking netminder Josh Kotai who leads the nation in save percentage at .950 and a goals-against average of 1.56.
  • Both LSSU and Augustana stand tied for third in the CCHA in goals per game at 2.67, but the Vikings hold opponents to an average of 1.97 goals per game for the league's second best scoring defense.
  • This weekend will also be a battle between the CCHA's top penalty kill units with the Vikings leading the league in that category with a .886 kill rate while the Lakers kill penalties at a rate of .827.
  • Connor Milburn (Kamloops, B.C.) and Sasha Teleguine (North Attleborough, Mass.) enter the weekend leading the team in points with 17 each while Timo Bakos (Augsburg, Germany) (15), Nate Schweitzer (Champlin, Minn.) (14) John Herrington (Hudson's Hope, B.C.) (13), Dawson Tritt (Spokane, Wash.) (12), and Evan Bushy (Thief River Falls, Minn.) (11) have also notched double-digit points so far this season.
  • Teleguine is currently having a break out season as he ranks tied second in the CCHA for goal scoring with 13, including a 4-goal weekend against Bemidji State.
  • Schweitzer enters the weekend leading the team in assists with 12.
  • 21 different Lakers have recorded at least one point so far this season while 14 Lakers have scored at least one goal.
