After ten straight home games to open the season, Lake Superior State finally hit the road - and hit it with fury.
The Lakers wiped out Davenport (2-10) in ACHA Women's Division I hockey, scoring 5-1 and 7-0 wins on Friday and Saturday respectively. LSSUÂ (7-5) dominated the proceedings, outshooting the Panthers 77-25 on the weekend. The Lakers never trailed at any point in either game, and only allowed the lone DU goal late in the third of a game that was already well in hand.
Sophie Gibbs andÂ
Linnea Preugschas started the scoring rampage with strikes in the first period of Friday's contest.
Sarah Lamb and
Kaylee Eiriksson added third period strikes, before Davenport scored to cut the Laker lead to 4-1. But
Lindsey Tonello's shorthanded goal at 19:05 of the third period put paid to any fleeting chances of a comeback.
Saturday's game, the Lakers devastated the Panthers with a ferocious offensive output. Keeping play largely in the DU zone, LSSU allowed just 13 shots on goal while putting 50 pucks on target the other way. Eiriksson scored her second of the weekend,
Brooke Brazeau notched a goal and assist, and
Tessa Deal scored twice in the third period. Tonello added her 11th goal of the season for LSSU. A four-goal outburst in the third period sealed a dominant victory for the Lakers.
They'll take the next couple of weeks off before facing Grand Valley State at Taffy Abel Arena on December 5th and 6th. Fans see all LSSU ACHA hockey games at Taffy Abel Arena this season for free.
