Day three at the 2025 Don Kimble Invitational saw more Laker history, as
Fedor Mironov won the 50 yard men's freestyle race and achieved his second NCAA "B" qualifying standard of the weekend.
Finishing in 20.12, the sophomore swimmer blew away the field, finishing .33 ahead of anybody else in the race. It wrapped an outstanding weekend for Lake Superior State's Swimming & Diving teams and an incredible personal weekend for Mironov, who won the 100 yard freestyle event on Saturday and also hit the NCAA "B" qualification standard in that event.Â
The wins were the first midseason wins by Laker swimmers in program history, while Mironov hit the first national qualifying marks in school history as well. It's a remarkable success for the program in its second year of competition.
In other events,
Dimitrij Mijailovic finished the 200 yard breaststroke in 2:09.98, a new school record.
For the women's team, first-year swimmer
Andrea Ayuso Mendez completed the 200 yard breaststroke in 2:33.18, a new team record. She also set the school record for the best 100 yard split in the event, at 1:13.35.
Sunday wrapped up the three-day Don Kimble Invitational, hosted by Davenport University. LSSU's results continue to elevate the young program, under the guidance of first-year head coach Tim O'Neill. The Lakers next travel to the Shark Invitational at Nova Southeastern in mid-December.
