Box Score Halen McLaughlin made the most of her 17 minutes in Lake Superior State's GLIAC-opening game at #1 Grand Valley State. The first-year player shot 6-of-8 from the floor and hit three of her four three-point attempts, scoring 16 points and leading LSSU (0-6, 0-1 GLIAC) in an 89-39 loss at GVSU (7-0, 1-0 GLIAC).
She played extensively in the second half, hitting a step-back triple late in the third and knocking down a jumper before the quarter's end. She also picked up a pair of assists late in the frame. Then in the fourth, McLaughlin kept on scoring. She hit a triple early, then closed out regulation with a pair of buckets and a free throw.
The rookie from Sanford, MI scored a career-high, dropping an impressive stat line on the defending national champions. It's the kind of instant offense from the bench the Lakers will look forward to more of in the future.
Seyyane Matthew posted an excellent line from the bench as well, swatting four shots and scoring six points. It was an excellent outing by the Brampton, ON native.
Grace Bradford scored six points with six rebounds and an assist for LSSU.
