SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - The Lake Superior State (LSSU) women's tennis team competed in a pair of road matches over the weekend at Northwood and Hillsdale.
Â
Northwood
Due to the Northwood Timberwolves only having five players available, the Lakers entered the match with a 1-0 lead with default wins at No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles.
However, despite being disadvantaged by numbers, the Timberwolves managed to steal away the doubles point by taking the other two matches, including a hard-fought 7-5 decision at the No. 2 spot over the duo of Tayla Brasier (Bathurst, Australia) and Trinity Ly (Brampton, Ont.).
Northwood would then go on to take all five singles matches that they competed in for a 6-1 victory, but the Lakers made them earn it as both Maddie Whip (Sydney, Australia) and Ly forced tiebreakers to decide their second sets, and Valentina Parodi (Albissola Marina, Italy) came up just two-points shy in a super-tiebreaker at the No. 4 spot.

Hillsdale
The Hillsdale Chargers opened the match by taking all three doubles matches with identical scores of 6-3 across the board.
The Lakers would battle throughout the lineup, but only Parodi managed to come out on top for LSSU with a 6-4, 6-4 win in the No. 4 singles match. Brasier was able to take the second set in a marathon of a match at the No. 2 spot, but she would ultimately come up just shy in a super-tiebreaker with a final score of 5-7, 7-5, 0-1[4-10].
The Lakers will now turn their attention to the PTR Spring Tennis Fest in Hilton Head, S.C. with their first match of the event scheduled for Sunday, March 2 at 1:30 p.m. against Florida Southern.
