HOUGHTON, Mich. - The Lake Superior State (LSSU) men's basketball team (21-5, 12-4 GLIAC) narrowly fell to the Michigan Tech Huskies (18-6, 13-3 GLIAC) in the closing moments by a final score of 80-75 on Saturday.
Both teams battled early, but the Lakers let it fly from beyond the arc to pull ahead with a pair of threes from Adam Harakow (Edmonton, Alta.) followed by another from Devin Womack (Ypsilanti, Mich.). Kingsley Perkins (Ypsilanti, Mich.) would then go to work inside, and a pair of free throws from Hunter Soper (Lexington, Mich.) had LSSU ahead by 14 points, their largest lead of the day. Michigan Tech was able to push back, but the Lakers held onto a 42-31 lead at the break.
Perkins got back to work early in the second half with an and-one before Tyson Edmondson (Ypsilanti, Mich.) drove through the lane on his way to the rim for two more points of his own. Both teams would then trade blows, but the Huskies managed to pull themselves back within three. Edmondson was able to hold them at bay, scoring the Lakers' next six points, but the Huskies kept hanging around. Michigan Tech would claw their way back, and with just under four minutes to play, they hit a three to take their first lead since the early stages of the game. The Lakers kept fighting with a fast break layup from Womack, but after a loose ball bounced around late in the shot clock, the Huskies hit a prayer of a deep three to ice the game away.
Edmondson led the Lakers in scoring with 18 points while Perkins had 15 points of his own to go along with 8 rebounds and 3 blocks. Meanwhile, Harakow and Womack also finished the day in double figures with 13 and 12 points, respectively.
The Lakers will look to bounce back when they host Wisconsin-Parkside on Thursday, Feb. 20 with tipoff scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
