Laker Men's Basketball Best SVSU 88-66

Box Score

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Lake Superior State (LSSU) men's basketball team (24-5, 15-4 GLIAC) pulled away for an 88-66 victory over the Saginaw Valley State (SVSU) Cardinals (10-17, 6-13 GLIAC) on Thursday.

The Lakers opened the game with hot shooting from beyond the arc with both Devin Womack (Ypsilanti, Mich.) and Hunter Soper (Lexington, Mich.) striking from distance as LSSU jumped out to an early 11-2 lead. Kingsley Perkins (Ypsilanti, Mich.) would then get to work inside, coming away with multiple jams, and Soper and Tyson Edmondson (Ypsilanti, Mich.) continued to let it fly to extend the lead to as many as 21. The Cardinals were able to close out the half on a run to close the gap, but LSSU held on to a 46-33 advantage going into the break.

The Lakers wasted no time pulling ahead in the second half with a three from Andy Soma (Traverse City, Mich.) and an and-one from Perkins before another three from Soper had LSSU back up by 20. SVSU once again clawed back to within 11, but a three from Adam Harakow (Edmonton, Alta.) kick-started a 10-1 run to go back up by 20 as the Lakers closed out the 88-66 victory.

Soper led the way offensively with 24 points on the night, and the six-time GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week also put together a strong stat line on the other end of the floor as well with 4 steals and a block. Perkins tacked on 17 points of his own while also securing 9 rebounds, and Edmondson also finished the night scoring double figures with 13.

The Lakers return to action on Saturday, March 1 when they travel to face the Wayne State Warriors with tipoff scheduled for 3 p.m.
