PREVIEW: Laker Hockey to Close Out Regular Season at BGSU

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - The Lake Superior State (LSSU) Lakers are set to close out the regular season with a CCHA road series at Bowling Green (BGSU) in a battle between two of the CCHA's original founding members.

Stories to watch:
  • The Lakers lead the all-time series between the two programs 92-84-14, but the Falcons have taken nine of the last ten matchups between the two programs, with LSSU's lone victory during that stretch being won by a Jared Westcott game-winner in overtime on Nov. 18, 2023.
  • The Falcons were able to take both games in the Soo to open the 2025 calendar year with a 3-0 victory on Jan. 3 before taking game two 3-1 the following night despite a power play goal from Sasha Teleguine (North Attleborough, Mass.).
  • Christian Stover was named the CCHA Goaltender of the Week after his performance in the last meetings between these two programs.
  • The Lakers will be looking to slow down Falcons' forward Ryan O'Hara who has historically played well against the Lakers over the past three seasons with 20% of his career goals coming against LSSU (7 / 35).
  • The Lakers enter the weekend tied for seventh in the CCHA standings with Ferris State, but the Lakers hold the tiebreaker over the Bulldogs by way of a 2-1 advantage in head to head regulation wins.
  • The Falcons enter the weekend looking to secure home ice for the opening round of the Mason Cup Playoffs with a two-point advantage over a lurking St. Thomas squad.
  • William Ahlrik (Tidaholm, Sweden) has developed into one of the best players in the CCHA in the face off circle, winning faceoffs at a rate of .594 which ranks second in the league.
  • Connor Milburn enters the weekend leading the team in points with 22 while Timo Bakos (19), Teleguine (19), Nate Schweitzer (18), Dawson Tritt (17), John Herrington (15), Evan Bushy (14), Reagan Milburn (12), Luke Levandowski (10), and Ahlrik (10) have also notched double-digit points so far this season.
  • Teleguine is currently having a break out season in scoring as he ranks second in the CCHA for goal scoring with 14, including a 4-goal weekend against Bemidji State.
  • Schweitzer enters the weekend leading the team in assists with 15.
  • 22 different Lakers have recorded at least one point so far this season while 15 Lakers have scored at least one goal.
