SOUTHFIELD, Mich. - The Lake Superior State (LSSU) women's tennis team (1-0) opened the 2025 Spring season with a 5-2 victory at Lawrence Tech on Saturday.
The Lakers got off to a hot start as Tayla Brasier (Bathurst, Australia) and Trinity Ly (Brampton, Ont.) wasted no time giving their team an early edge with a 6-0 performance at No. 2 doubles, and the duo of Maddie Whip (Sydney, Australia) and Valentina Parodi (Albissola Marina, Italy) secured the 1-0 start to the match with a 6-3 win in the top doubles match.
In singles play, Whip continued to set the tone with a dominant 6-1, 6-1 showing at the top of the lineup. Ly would then extend the match lead to 3-0 after closing out a 6-1, 6-2 victory at the No. 3 spot against LTU's Jacqueline Acocer. Brasier clinched the match shortly thereafter with a 6-4, 6-4 win in the No. 2 singles match to give her team a 1-0 start to the season.
The Blue Devils managed to steal a pair of matches at the No. 4 and 5 spots in tightly contested matches, but Martina Oviedo (Cordoba, Argentina) added the exclamation point at No. 6 singles, defeating LTU's Taylor Moore 6-2, 6-3.
The Lakers return to action on Friday, Feb. 7 when they travel to face Northwood with the first serve scheduled for 11 a.m.
